CMCP Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the certification exam, CMCP® candidates must demonstrate the minimum work experience requirements related to commercial real estate property management and industry training/professional development. Commercial real estate is defined as properties used exclusively for business purposes but does include residential properties with at least five units. See Exam Information and Resources for details on what type of training qualifies.

CMCP Fast Track
You can minimize the required hours of industry training/professional development to as little as 20 hours if you have a college degree in commercial real estate. A related degree in commercial real estate may include not limited to finance, hotel management, business, and project management.

Steps to Becoming Certified
- Obtain proof of required hours of property management continuing education. Course titles, sponsors, dates, hours; certificates of completion or other proof of course completion must be submitted with your application. For education and exam prep resources, see section on Exam Information and Study Resources. The number of required hours is dependent upon the eligibility pathway selected.
- If necessary, obtain proof of formal education. If a college degree is required for the eligibility pathway you have chosen, you must submit a copy of your college diploma and/or transcript with your application.
- Complete and submit the online application along with the Application Fee (Click here to download the application).
- Within 14 days of your application being approved, you must pay the Initial Exam Fee. Once the Initial Exam Fee is processed, you have 180 days to make an appointment at a Pearson VUE testing center and take your exam. You must register for the exam at least 10 business days prior to your desired exam date.
- You must take the exam within 180 days of the date your Initial Exam Fee payment is processed. Extensions may be requested for extenuating circumstances, such as military call to duty, illness, maternity leave or an emergency situation.
- After you complete your exam, you will be notified immediately of pass/fail status and will receive a score report within one week.
Re-Examination
If you do not pass the CMCP examination, you may apply to retake the exam after 30 days, and you may retake the exam up to 3 times in a 12-month period. Thereafter, a waiting period of 1 year from the last exam date is required. Contact BOMA for more information at education@boma.org.
Promote Your CMCP® Certification
Once you pass the exam and achieve the CMCP® certification, we encourage you to promote your achievement, along with displaying the CMCP® credential and logo after your name, on business cards and more.
Maintaining Your CMCP® Certification
To maintain your CMCP® certification, you must complete at least 45 hours of verifiable continuing professional development (including 3 hours of CRE ethics) every 3 years and pay recertification fees in effect at the time. You also must demonstrate CRE employment within 90 days of applying for recertification. More information will be provided once you achieve your certification.
